Week 23 (3-9 December 2018)

I was excited to see the Christmas lights in downtown Port Vila when we came back from the Solomon Islands Monday.

It was a Christmas week!  We attended two zone conferences (Efate/Tanna and New Caledonia) where we talked about what should we give the Savior in 2019. The missionaries presented the story of the birth of Jesus Christ with their talents.  We watched the movie “Mr. Krueger’s Christmas” in the first conference and “the Nativity” in the second conference.  We ate two feasts prepared by the missionaries and they enjoyed some activities in the afternoons.  We enjoyed singing Christmas hymns with them and the sharing of testimonies.  All in all, a very uplifting and enjoyable experience each time.

Christmas Presentation of  New Caledonia Zone

This missionary is leaving January 1st.  He keeps hurting his foot.  I hope he will make it without breaking his leg.

A good umbrella for the sprinkles.  For both zones, it started raining as soon as the missionaries went outside for the games.
                                                                 Brave Elder Secretan.
No, he is not pondering.  He started grilling the chicken at 5:00 am.  He did not think my idea of doing it the night before was good.  Live and learn.

We received these two cute pineapples.

I made mango jam this week before we left for New Caledonia to use the mangoes who were very ripe.  It tasted pretty good.   I also tried to make caramelized apple pie.  It was not a success.  I have to figure out how to make the pie crust without shortening. Let’s just say I need to keep working at it. 😊

I had to put my nurse’s hat a few times this week.  The health problems were heat rash, poison ivy, a rash with swelling that we do not know what it is yet (the missionary and his companion have to stay in Port Vila hoping the doctor there will be able to help him and find out what it is) another missionary needed to go to the dentist with an infected tooth, another one has athlete’s foot and it is not getting any better, his companion has a rash and that one is getting better, and a missionary that broke a tooth while sleeping. I saw him today and the whole tooth is gone.  I am going with him to the dentist this afternoon.  I will spare you the pictures of some of these ailments that I have received.

Saturday papa/grand-papa had a few papers to sign in New Caledonia and I was feeding him lychees. It is the season for lychees in New Caledonia.  We like them a lot.

The restaurant at the hotel serves really good French food also.  I am looking forward to be there again next week.  We will be accompanied by Elder Nattress, the second counselor in the Area Presidency.

I really enjoy Sunday in New Caledonia.  We visited a ward we had not been to yet.  There was a presentation by the YSA about Institute.  It was very uplifting.  A great group of young single adults. We were asked to say a few words.  It was interesting to me that what I had studied in the morning in the Book of Mormon was confirming the presentation that was made.  Alma 37:44  “For behold, it is as easy to give heed to the word of Christ, which will point to you a straight course to eternal bliss, as it was for our fathers to give heed to this compass, which would point unto them a straight course to the promised land.”

We had lunch at a member’s home.  It was délicieux!  The meal and the company.  The view was also very nice.  They live by the sea.  The Church also is on a hill overseeing the sea.  Beautiful!

Following are nice sceneries of New Caledonia

It has been hard posting on the blog because we have been struggling with the internet.  Not too long ago we could live without the Wi-Fi connection fine.  Now it complicates our lives when we have no connection.

Lukum yu!  See you later.
