2020 Semaine 5 (26 janvier au 2 février)
A lot of memorable moments this week.
It started with the blessing of our little Emma. We are far in distance but we felt so close just looking at the pictures.
Grand-papa’s sister Chantal and her husband Robert, took a “little” boat for a one day visit to Vanuatu. It was so wonderful to spend some time with them. What a feast for the soul! To be far away from family makes one value it’s priceless gift.
Monday was another busy and beautiful day.😅. Our dear friends the Coalliers arrived to serve with us. They came to the Efate zone conference and left on Wednesday to go to New Caledonia. We will see them again this coming Wednesday when we go for their zone conference. It is very exciting to think that we will see them about every 6 weeks and work together until the end of our mission.
The day they left for New Caledonia (check-in at 4:30 am) we were leaving for Solomon Islands (check-in at 6:20 am). It was a good long day.
We enjoyed the wonderful spirit of both zone conferences as we discussed the First vision and the missionaries role-played teaching the restoration sharing the First vision in Joseph Smith’s own words. It confirmed again and again the truthfulness of this extraordinary event in the history of this world.
Mason, thank you again for your gift of the little container for bandaids. I used it for a sister missionary, Sister Shelman, who cut her finger on the lid of a container that had peanuts in it.
One on the far left reminded me of Bella belle the way she danced. She was very good.
In the Solomon Islands there was, at the resort where we stay, some young ladies dancing and the one on the far left, reminded me so much of Bella. I can’t wait to hug you Bella belle.
Another great moment this week was talking to Bella for her birthday. The
Coallier told us that we will have a lot of fun discovering all your sweet notes in our apartment when we come back. That will be SO FUN! We are looking forward to that! 😍🥰😘
The adventure this week was also memorable. It was planned that during our stay in the Solomon Islands we would visit an island called Malaita to visit the members there. We also have 4 missionaries serving on that island. From the very beginning I did not want to go. I did not know why. So I just thought I would be fine and that Heavenly father would help me get out of my comfort zone. So by Thursday night, I was okay and at peace and I was okay with going. Saturday morning, we had to check-out and check back in when we came back Sunday. We are ready to leave the room and grand-papa opens the shades. The sky is black, and I see lightening and I can imagine myself in a small plane with a lot of turbulence and spending two days in the rain on a remote island. I had prayed if I should not go that Heavenly father would show me. So when I saw the weather I thought, I can’t go and I told grand-papa, I am not going. He said, it will be fine we are leaving in two hours the weather will change. When we got at the reception desk to check-out, I said, can we keep the room today and have the same one tomorrow, I am not leaving in this weather. The girl told me there was no problem and I called sister Sitake who was coming with us and her husband and told her. She ended up not going either. On and off that morning I felt so sad and faithless. I was pretty hard on myself. I studied the scriptures in the Book of Mormon and in the words of the modern prophets. I spoke with Audrée and doing all these things gave me peace.
The next day, Sunday, sister Sitake was not feeling well. She is diabetic and her blood sugar was low and she felt weak. She told me, I think you had those feelings because I was the one who should not go because of my health. We were waiting to pick up our husbands that afternoon and received their call before we headed out to the airport that their flight was cancelled. A lady that broke her leg and was waiting to be taken to Honiara to go to the hospital was waiting with them. So they were trying to get a plane there. Then they said that a plane was ready to come but they did not have a pilot. They were trying to convince a pilot. Finally the airport attendant said the pilot was coming. We were relieved but it did not last. I got a phone call from grand-papa who said the pilot had turned the plane around back to Honiara because of mechanical problems. So they had to sleep another night there. The last time they ate was Saturday evening. It is a very remote island and sister Sitake had prepare a basket of food to bring but her husband did not want to bring it.
This morning, grand-papa called me to say the plane they were expecting at 8:00 am this morning is too small to accommodate their cancelled flight and the scheduled flight this morning. So they are waiting for a bigger plane who should arrive around 1:00 pm. It is about a 30 minute flight from Malaita to Honiara. Our check-in for our flight back to Vila is at 1:15 pm. I pray he will arrive on time. I was hoping he could arrive this morning to change and take a shower and EAT. I got him breakfast but I am not sure he will be able to eat it.
Soooooo, Right now, we have no control on this situation we can only trust that it will all work out. I will let you know what happened before I publish this blog.
I came across this message by President Kimball in the September 1976 Ensign.
I was 20 years old when he gave it. It resonates as if President Nelson spoke these words today.
“I ask us all to honestly evaluate our performance in scripture study.”
“ I ask all to begin now to study the scriptures in earnest, if you have not already done so. And perhaps the easiest and most effective way to do this is to participate in the study program of the Church.”
I thought of the program “ Come, Follow Me.”
”May we all read the Book of Mormon prayerfully, study it carefully, and receive a testimony of its divinity. For the Savior himself said of it: “As your Lord and your God liveth it is true.” (D&C 17:6)
It is 9:00 pm Monday night. I am ready to publish tis blog. The Lord's tender mercy was upon us again. The plane arrived earlier in Malaita. Grand-papa and Elder Sitake arrived at 1:15 pm at the airport. Just in time for our check-in to Port Vila. Thank you Heavenly Father.
Here are some pictures of Malaita ( Auki and Fuaubu):

This bird is real even if it looks stuffed. Pretty spider from afar

A humanitarian project that was just finished. Water tanks to collect the rain water for all their use.
On their way to go teach.
Very bush.
A lot of children have blond hair. Adorable
View where they went teaching
Listerine strips in this heat look more like little melted chunks
This is what I saw as we arrived in Vanuatu at customs. It is good to be back in Vanuatu. It felt like a hug.
