2021 Month 5:1 (3-9 May)

This week will be a more visual blog.  We were told that the Pacific Area Travel will be working on our itinerary to return home.  We should know sometime in May what it is.  That news makes it more real and we are trying to internalize Vanuatu as much as we can.

The week started with a little lizard itching a ride on our windshield.  It was holding on for dear life.  Luckily we had to stop for gas before arriving at the mission office.  It quickly made its way on the roof of the car and when we stopped, it was already gone.  Whenever bugs or little critters travel inadvertently with us, I always wonder if they will try to get back where they started or make a new life for themselves wherever they end up ????😔

We started a Book of Mormon scripture chain with our missionary this week.

I hope it will last for many weeks to come.

We saw all the missionaries coming by the office because it was interview week.  We enjoy these times where we can talk with the missionaries.  Grand-papa talks to each one in the mission president's office and I visit with the ones waiting their turn or for their companion.

We also try to visit each unit on Efate before we leave.  Today we went to Paonangisu, which is about an hour drive from the mission home.  We first took the Paonangisu missionaries back home Tuesday so we could remember how to go there today.  We are glad we did because by the time we came back we saw amazing sunsets. Here are some pictures of our ride to  and from Paonangisu Tuesday and today.

On the road leading to the missionaries home.  The Elders had to go out the car to encourage the pigs to get off the road. 😊

Grand-papa took this one.  He is so good!

These trees to me look like they are socializing.

Action shot!

Close to the airport we see this store.  I wanted to make sure I took a picture of it.

I hope you enjoyed the ride!

This little young man gave a talk at sacrament meeting.  It was on missionary work.  It was very good.

Outside the chapel is this tree called LOWNI.  I was told it is bitter but if prepared well it is good to the taste and for your health.

All around the chapel are lemon trees.  They look weird, but the Elders say they are good.

We were received warmly.  It felt really good to be with these saints.  They are so thankful to have missionaries with them again.  Unfortunately, more missionaries will leave soon and just a few will be coming in.  Grand-papa needs to talk to the Stake President to see which area will have to be closed because there is not enough missionaries.  One good news is that in July, two missionaries from New Caledonia will be done with their on-line MTC and will be starting their mission in New Caledonia.

Today, I was reminded of  the concluding remarks of President Eyring at the priesthood session:" The Lord knows you personally.  He conferred the priesthood upon you, and your rising up and magnifying the priesthood matter to Him because He loves you and He trusts you to bless people He loves in His name.  I bless you now to be able to feel His love and His trust."  I felt the love the Lord has for the people of Vanuatu.

MIFALA LAVEM YUFALA TUMAS!
